The Dancer, Maine
A partially cloudy day and falling tide brought snowy egrets to a tidal bay. Taken with a 500mm Sigma lens on a tripod, I took several pictures of this bird as it came in for a landing. Just at the right moment it passed into the sunlight between the clouds. I spent well over an hour sitting, waiting and shooting before the bird, shadow, and light came together. "Framed 20X16 $200

Lake Louise, Banff NP, Alberta
The weather on the day that my wife and I drove to beautiful Lake Louise deteriorated from the moment we started our car. We hiked in the rain that alternated from drizzle to downpour. Our rain gear and the camera raincoat made us comfortable and able to take several interesting photographs. The drama of the clouds and the crags makes this one of our favorites.

Alone with Allah
During a visit to one of our sons, who was serving in Jakarta, Indonesia I wandered through their rather upscale neighborhood and came to a small apparently newly built mosque. From the wrap around porch I could see the interior, empty save for the man in deep contemplation. The high contrast of the scene required high dynamic range software to show the lovely tile work in the recessed area.

Athabasca River, Jasper NP
The Athabasca River in Alberta's Jasper National Park flows to the Arctic Ocean, confronted by the Mountains it appears to turn. The rain clouds seemed to be breaking over the distant snow-kissed mountains in the background. The repetition of conflicting diagonal lines of the mountains contrasting with the strong vertical lines of the foreground trees, and the progression of dark to light from the foreground back to the bright mountains and the dark to light progression of the top of the sky to the mountains makes this a pleasing photograph.

Love of Music, Suchou
This musician was seated at the entrance to the public park. Dressed in a silk suit he played, enthralled by his music, and totally oblivious to the crowd and the photographers. The original photograph was taken on Ektachrome film and scanned and developed in Photoshop and On1 software.

The Pride of Baltimore
I was on the beach at Reid State Park, Georgetown, Maine after a Summer rain, when this schooner rigged ship appeared out of the mist. Shortly after it was published in Color and Black & White under the title of Schooner in the Mist, a gentleman called me to tell me that the name of the vessel was the Pride of Baltimore, a reproduction of a War of 1812 privateer that a relative had built. I used a Nikon D200 with a 24-120 lens, handheld. It was processed in Adobe Lightroom. I applied sharpening software only to the waves in the foreground and printed on Epson fine art velvet paper and also on watercolor finish paper. I like both versions.

The Secret
This is a scanned slide photograph taken in the Old Town district in Pingyao, China. I noticed these two women in a very active conversation. The woman with the white hair stepped slight behind the other woman and began to whisper. Through the viewfinder I could see the expression of the other woman change; I took the picture. I developed the final photograph in Photoshop, darkening the darker background and applying routine sharpening to the women, with no attempt to soften or enhance the lines and wrinkles in the faces.
