July 29 and July 30, Indoors - Meets in Ceramic Studio
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner
Tuition: $70 (Log in for membership discount prices)
In this workshop, Natania demonstrates how to create a variety of faceted and fluted surfaces. There are many technical and aesthetic considerations to examine when creating altered surfaces on ceramic forms. Focusing mostly on bottle and tumbler forms, you will learn faceting both in the wet, freshly thrown state with several wire-type tools, as well as how to create facets in the leather hard state with spokeshave tools.
For this class you will need to purchase your own wire tool kit for fluting (these range kits from around $15 to $20 dollars). Natania recommends: http://www.xiemtoolsusa.com/Fluting-Tools_c_148.html
Basic throwing skills are necessary.

-Students will have access to Open Studios on Wednesday, August 2nd to finish glazing their work. Open Studios is from 10am to 1pm, and 5pm to 8pm. You may pick up your work from the workshop the following Wednesday.
About the instructor:
Natania Hume is the creative force behind Slow Studio. She is a trained studio potter and has worked primarily in clay for almost 20 years. She was born in New York City, but spent her formative years amidst rural academia in Amherst Massachusetts. When she discovered clay at the Massachusetts College of Art years ago, she knew immediately that it was a material which she innately understood. When not in her studio she can be found teaching art and ceramics at an independent boarding and day school in New England. She produces the Slow Studio line of ceramic tableware at her farmhouse studio in Vermont.
