Get ready to submit your art portfolio for college!

This is a four-week comprehensive course on portfolio development for high schoolers who are interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree in art and design or submitting a supplementary portfolio.

We will cover the different art and design majors available, the colleges best suited for them, what colleges are specifically looking for in student portfolios (from admission officers themselves!), how to best prepare your portfolio for submission, and how to effectively talk about your art. We will also provide art portfolio examples, documentation tutorials, and portfolio review resources.

Students will participate in group critique sessions, where they will give and receive feedback from their peers on their portfolios. They will also have the opportunity to receive portfolio reviews in one-on-one meetings with the instructor. Each student has access to 20 minutes of individual attention in weekly office hours. By the end of the course, students will have all the tools necessary to document their work and put together a portfolio, which are essential foundational skills for any artist or designer.

This course is taught by Christine Wang, an undergraduate currently enrolled at Rhode Island School of Design (who has recent first-hand experience with exactly what you’re going through!). In addition to the weekly class sessions, Christine will offer regular office hours for individual advising.

About the instructor:

Christine Wang is a student at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) studying Graphic Design/Painting. She is a two-time National Youngarts Foundation winner in Visual Arts, Scholastic National Gold Medal recipient in Design, and a Congressional Art Competition winner. Her artwork from the Congressional Art Competition was displayed at the U.S Capitol building. Having recently gone through the college application process herself, she has previously worked with many high schoolers to help them craft their ideal portfolios.
