Stoneware Clay

10 x 9 x 9 (inches)

Hand-built dowel stretched. Insert dowel into fat rolled coil of clay, place coil on a flat surface, hold the extended ends of the dowel and roll the inserted dowel to stretch clay. Stop at appropriate time (learned by trial and error), remove dowel, set clay vertical on work area. Continue shaping clay by pushing out with hand inside the coil to form the intended shape (stretching the mid part of the coil the most and leaving the foot and top narrower. After desired shape is formed, foot and cover are made from a slab of clay. When looking at the finished piece, notice the stretch marks from pushing out to make the desired form. Glazed sprayed on piece; fired in gas kiln.
