Butterfly Bowl

Dyed Sheep's Wool, Thread

Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly. This piece reminds us that change is inevitable but beautiful days lie ahead. We only need to look at the beauty in nature for this reminder.

I created the butterflies by layering 10 (ten!) layers of dyed sheep's wool and using a wet felting process to create the luscious fabric. I then cut this handmade fabric into the butterflies, stitched them to add strength and interest, and surrounded the bottom circle with the beauties.

The toughest decision to make as you look at this piece is...which side is your favorite...the top or the bottom?
