The Athabasca River in Alberta's Jasper National Park flows to the Arctic Ocean, confronted by the Mountains it appears to turn. The rain clouds seemed to be breaking over the distant snow-kissed mountains in the background. The repetition of conflicting diagonal lines of the mountains contrasting with the strong vertical lines of the foreground trees, and the progression of dark to light from the foreground back to the bright mountains and the dark to light progression of the top of the sky to the mountains makes this a pleasing photograph.
