8 week course every Monday from 9:30AM to 12:30 (3 hours)

This 8 week course is designed to teach beginners (and to refresh more advanced woodworkers) on the fundamentals of woodworking and power tool use and safety, all while building a timeless piece of furniture that will easily find a place in any home.
Students will gain a basic understanding of wood as a material and learn to:
• create project plans
• mill and dimension lumber
• cut tapered legs
• cut mortise and tenon and dovetail joints
• assemble furniture parts
• execute simple finishing techniques
They will be introduced to power tools that include the jointer, planer, table saw, bandsaw, router and a variety of sanders, as well as hand tools that include measuring and marking tools, chisels and hand saws. Emphasis will be on proper and safe use of tools. Students should bring the following tools to all classes: pencil, 12” combination square, small tape measure, marking knife, sharp chisels (at least a 1”, ½” and ¼”), dovetail saw and safety glasses. A limited number of tools will be available as loaners. Cost: $475 plus materials (wood) fee of approximately $50, paid to instructor at first class.
Each student will complete a classic Shaker End Table.
