Build a Shaker-Inspired Wall Cabinet
The fundamentals of woodworking and power tool use.

This 8- class course will teach woodworkers of all levels (including beginners) the fundamentals of woodworking and power tool use and safety, and will result in each student’s building a beautiful small cabinet with 1 drawer out of the hardwood of their choice. Students will learn to: • create a project plan; • mill and dimension lumber; • cut mortise and tenon and dovetail joints; • construct a frame and panel door • assemble furniture parts; • execute simple finishing techniques. They will learn to work with power tools that include the jointer, planer, table saw, bandsaw, router and a variety of sanders, as well as hand tools that include measuring and marking tools, chisels and hand saws. Emphasis will be on proper and safe use of tools. Students should bring the following tools to all classes: pencil, 12” combination square, small tape measure, marking knife, sharp chisels (at least a 1”, ½” and ¼”), dovetail saw and safety glasses. Students will be sent instructions to help them purchase the correct quantity of wood (in board feet) prior to the first class.
