Demo: Restoring Furniture with Zack Zidell

This demonstration will go over the process of filling, shaping and touching up chips and gouges in antique or modern furniture.

Zack will review basic filling and shaping methods and spend the crux of time explaining techniques of painting in wood color, replicating grain patterns and sealing in and blending those touchups to the surrounding areas of a piece. He will show different finish options and touchup paints, and discuss ideal and less than ideal situations one may come across in a given project. 

About Zack Zidell:

I have been restoring many varieties of antique furniture for 5 years now. Having gotten my professional start apprenticing at a full scale antique restoration/woodworking shop, I developed an aptitude for refinishing and touching up cracks, chips and gouges of endless variations. Years of stripping, spraying and moving large pieces took a toll and I transitioned to freelance work, specializing in small repairs and touchups. I take pride in reducing waste and needless chemicals in the restoration process. I try to save existing finishes whenever possible and enjoy the process of improvising and figuring out methods unique to each piece I work on.
