Together and Apart   A 25 year marriage. Together.

Over 60 years working in the arts in different fields. Apart.

A dramatist and an artist interview each other about their favorite things: treasured objects from the MFA collection, beloved texts from the American Theatre, and a pop quiz.

Because even after 25 years together, there are still things that can surprise them both.

BIOS

Matthew Siegal is the Chair of Conservation and Collections Management at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. He has a 32 year art museum career and has worked on 4 continents (and slated for Australia this spring…) He specializes in the moving and mounting of massive statues, and speaks internationally about the role of museums in addressing climate change.  Matthew is also on the Board of Trustees at Lex Art. He spends all his free time outside, and is especially skilled at seeing Bald Eagles everywhere.

Melinda Lopez is the Artist-in-Residence at the Huntington Theatre Company, and an award-winning  playwright and performer. Her plays have been performed all over the United States, and also in Cuba. She has received recognition from The Kennedy Center, the Mass Cultural Council, the Mellon Foundation, and the Elliott Norton Award for Sustained Excellence in 2019. Mayor Marty Walsh designated October 29, 2016 "Melinda Lopez Day in the City of Boston” in honor of her twenty-five year career as a playwright, performer and educator. She serves on the Board of Friends of Caritas Cuba, which provides humanitarian aid to the people of Cuba. She also plays a little ukulele.

Matthew and Melinda will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on October 1, 2020. They have hiked about two thousand miles through desert canyons, and snowy peaks, through Gates of the Arctic National Park in Alaska, and crisscrossing the Continental Divide, most recently in the San Juan mountains of Colorado (where they were definitely not lost.)
