Wikipedia tells us that an adornment is generally an accessory or ornament worn to enhance the beauty or status of the wearer, to distinguish the wearer, and/or to define cultural, social, or religious status within a specific community. Working with various elementary materials and techniques, we will make a series of body adornments…pins, pendants, earrings, bracelets or necklaces…emphasizing the use of a guiding idea to progress from one to the next.  This workshop will be more about process than product but you may be surprised at what can be accomplished in a short time with simple materials.

Materials: A $20 kit (directly payable to the instructor) will be provided at the beginning of the class. Students will need to bring additional materials that can be found HERE.

About the instructor: Lissa grew up in Indiana, attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana and earned a BA in Fine Arts and an MFA in textile design.  After a few years in Pennsylvania, teaching at Mansfield University, she moved to Maine where she has lived and had a studio practice for over forty years.

Her work is in the collections of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Art and Design in New York, the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington DC, among other museum collections.  Teaching and writing have always been a part of her life and she has recently added curating to her resumé.  She is honored to be a Life Trustee of Haystack School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine as well as a Maine Arts Commission Individual Artist Fellow and a Master Craft Artist of the Maine Crafts Association.
