Drawing Fundamentals: The Art of Seeing with Corry Buckwalter

Description:

Learn fundamental drawing skills including observation, line, form, value, composition, and texture through a variety of fun exercises. The art of seeing includes learning techniques such as visual measurement, developing accurate contour lines, creating light on form, and suggesting pattern and texture. Subjects will include botanical forms to study objects in direct observation, landscapes, imaginative drawing and more. Each class session includes demonstrations, examples of historical and contemporary approaches for inspiration, time for drawing practice and individual feedback from the instructor. Exercises are based on a calming mindful drawing approach to create both expressive and accurate drawings. This course offers a fundamental training for continuing in a variety of art classes including botanical art, landscape painting, figure drawing, urban sketching and others. Beginning and continuing students are welcome.

About the instructor: 

Corry Buckwalter is a visual artist, educator and landscape designer based in Arlington, MA. Her artwork explores ecology, land use and botanical subjects. Corry teaches botanical art, Japanese ink painting, mindful drawing and watercolor landscape painting at multiple art and community centers located in Arlington, Lexington, and Newton, MA, as well as, online. In her classes, Corry nurtures creativity through inclusive and supportive instruction. Her belief that art-making is a catalyst for personal growth and community-building has grown from her extensive experience teaching adult learners of all abilities.
