Every student will work on a project of their choosing, at their own pace, under the supervision and guidance of our Shop Steward, Palo Coleman.  Students must be previously certified on the core shop machines.  Non-members are welcome, but must be approved by the instructor before beginning the class.Â
Prerequisites:
Certified on core wood shop machines as demonstrated by full membership in the Woodworkers Guild, or by approval of the instructor for non-members. Â Approval will be based on the student's demonstrated knowledge of safe operation of a jointer, planer, table saw and bandsaw.
Materials list:Â
Students will purchase their own lumber and supplies.
Additional note:
Students   will bring their own lumber and consumable supplies for their chose project.    Hand tools and power tools will be provided as currently available   within the Wood Shop.   Depending on the nature of the project, a student may find the need to   purchase a specialty tool not available at the shop.
About the instructor:Â
Palo Coleman grew up unfettered in Northern California where he spent a lot of time in the woods taught himself building skills and developed an interest in small-scale living. Now living with his wife and family in Cambridge, he continues to experiment in myriad woodworking techniques and is a tiny-house builder. Recent projects include a living playground in Waitsfield, Vermont’s elementary school; making a vertical garden system; constructing medieval games for the Fuller Craft Museum; and developing a portable studio with Japanese-wood siding.
