Class: $155 (Log in for membership discount prices) 

Description: Sand casting is one of the earliest forms of casting and involves pouring liquid metal into a cavity made in firmly packed sand. In this 2-day workshop, we will learn how to carve a mold out of wax, create an impression in sand, cast a piece out of molten metal, and clean up the castings. Day one will consist of learning about the process, as well as carving our wax models, and Day two will focus on the casting and finishing process. Materials are provided. 

Note: Bronze is the metal provided in the course, but if you want to purchase Sterling Silver or another metal, please contact the instructor at least 2 weeks before the first day of the workshop.

About the instructor: Kylie Weinzierl is a Boston area interdisciplinary artist, with a primary focus in metalsmithing, a background in sound art, multimedia installation and fabrication, as well as glass work, textile, and performance. Kylie received a Bachelor of the Arts from Arizona State University in 2019, and a Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in February 2024. Kylie is the head Jewelry Instructor at Stonybrook Metal Arts & Sculpture School in Jamaica Plain, the Metals Studio Manager at LexArt, and is currently enrolled in the Jewelry Making & Repair program at North Bennet Street School in Boston.
