Description: 

This is an entry level class introducing the copper foil method of stained glass. Students will choose from design kits. While the kits will have precut and ground pieces, students will practice cutting and breaking pieces on clear glass. Students will also be able to practice using a grinder. They will then foil, solder and finish their projects. Decorative soldering and wire work may also be taught if time allows. All materials are included. 

Note: Stained glass solder is comprised of 60% tin and 40% lead. Lead can be harmful if ingested, so proper hand washing is recommended before eating and drinking. Safety glasses and gloves may be worn as well.

About the instructor: 

Margaret Stevens graduated with BFA in Fine Arts from Edinboro University. She pursued various design related jobs from sign making to retail visual art displays, and was always creating at home via quilting, home renovations and volunteering for events. After taking a stained glass course in 2016, Margaret opened her Etsy shop, Graphix Glass, in 2017. She quit her full time job at end of 2019 to make stained glass art full time. Margaret joined LexArt in 2022, and started teaching in fall 2024 to share the joy of stained glass. She sells her creations through Etsy, LexArt, craft fairs and commissions.
