SAORI weaving with Mihoko Wakabayashi- Session 2

Description:

SAORI weaving is a contemporary freestyle weaving started in Japan 50 years ago. It focuses on individual inner creativity. In this workshop, participants will learn how to weave on a pre-set warp on a SAORI loom. You will leave the workshop with a piece or work of your own, some people craft a scarf size piece, others make a small wall hanging. Come play with colors and textures, and learn basic weaving techniques too if you are a beginner. There is no experience necessary.

Note: 

There will be two separate classes held on the same day. One held at 10:00 am and the other at 1:30 pm. Please only sign up for one class. 

Materials fee: 

The student will receive an invoice by email. 

Additional notes:

The instructor will have a variety of yarn for people to use. However, if you have materials such as yarn, fabric strips, ribbons, you are welcome to bring them.

About the instructor: 

Mihoko Wakabayashi is an artist who makes unique wearable art and wall hangings. She was born and raised in Japan, where she received her B.A. in Education, and she learned weaving by working with young people who struggled in the Japanese school system. Mihoko then became a certified Saori instructor and opened the first SAORI Weaving studio in the US.

Mihoko has introduced SAORI weaving to many educational organizations in Massachusetts, through both teaching and  training other instructors. Since 2005 she has guided a 2 week Japan tour. She has received numerous awards and funding for her installations and programs, including her "Seed to Fashion" programs, where participants dye and weaving using indigo plants they grow themselves.
