Description

Have you always wanted to learn how to sew but don’t know where to start?  Here’s your chance to learn how to do basic machine sewing by making simple but useful  projects.  We will discuss project and fabric choice as well as simple pattern cutting. 

Pillowcase: We will make a case for a standard/queen size pillow (pillow measuring 30” long by 20” wide)

Drawstring Bag: We will make a self-lined single and double drawstring bags approximately 9" by 10"

Tote Bag: We will make a sturdy tote bag approximately  15" by 16"

Apron or Pajama Pants:  The class will vote on one project, either apron or pajama pants.

Materials

A $10 materials fee for the printed pattern will be collected by the instructor at the beginning of the class.

Also, students should buy on their own the materials listed here. A 20% discount on materials purchased at Fabric Corner at 783 Mill St., Arlington MA is available.  Please mention that your purchase is for Cheryl Moreau’s class.

About the instructor: 

Cheryl Moreau teaches sewing and textile arts at HATCH, Watertown’s Maker’s Space, sponsored by the Watertown Free Library; see the website http://www.watertownlib.org/hatch.  In January 2022 she will also teach at LexArt Sewing Studio, a new sewing and textile education program for this organization, see the website https://www.lexart.org/. Special interests include textile history, knitting, fabric printing, and designing with everyday objects and scrap materials.
