Description:

This workshop will give the participants the opportunity to explore various ways to decorate the surface of their pottery using silk screens.
1. The first workshop, will cover:
a. A discussion on what types of images are suitable for silk screen printing, and what surfaces features are best for transferring the image
b. Various ways to successfully print on curved surfaces
c. A demonstration of making silk screens using a pre-emulsified mesh silk screen printing sheet such as EZ screens
d. A demonstration on using Amaco Inks to print directly on a greenware how to use newsprint, gel pads or rice paper to transfer a silk-screened image onto pottery
e. Participants will use silk screens and Amaco Inks, to decorate one test tile and one small greenware trivet dish
2. During the second session, participants can touch up their bisqued pieces and glaze their pieces with glazes that are transparent (the test tile and trivet dish will be pre-made by the instructor).
Materials: Students should bring the following supplies to class:
· Red potter’s rib
· Yellow potter’s rib
· Small sponge
· Various paint brushes
Prerequisites:
Although participants would benefit from having some basic knowledge of clay, the workshop is suitable for potters of all levels that are interested decorating the surface of their pottery.
Additional notes:
-This class is for ages 16 and up.
-This class takes place over two consecutive Saturdays.
About the instructor:
Dianne is a retired special education teacher who started taking pottery in 2015 at Lexington Arts and Crafts. She soon fell in love with the creative process of creating beauty out of mud. Dianne became fascinated by the various ways she could decorate the surfaces of her pottery with Sgrafitto, carving, painting and silk screening.
