Description:Â
The goal of this class is to familiarize teens with the materials, tools, and techniques of working with clay. Hand building and wheel throwing will be used to create both functional and sculptural pieces. With demos and guidance, students are encouraged to explore their creativity. All levels are welcome, more advanced students will be encouraged to work on their own projects, with teacher feedback and help.
For the duration of the class, students are welcome to continue working on their pieces independently during supervised Wednesday open studio hours from 5pm to 8pm.Â
Materials:
A studio fee, clay fee,  toolkit fee, and firing fee are all included in tuition. Â
Note:
-This course is designed for ages 14 and up.Â

About the instructor:Â
Born in Zimbabwe, Marta spent her teenage and college years in the Midwest before moving to Austria. She returned to the United States to earn a Masters of Fine Arts degree from Boston University in 2011, and has lived in the area since then. Trained as a painter, her interest in materials keeps her moving between media and including ceramics, printmaking, sculpture and textiles in her work. She has taught painting in Watertown, and ceramics at DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park in Lincoln and at New Art Center in Newton.
