Description: 

Calling all teen ceramicists! Whether you're a seasoned potter or trying your hand at clay for the first time, this class is for you! Explore handbuilding and pottery wheel techniques with supportive guidance from an experienced instructor. Over eight creative weeks, you'll dive into the full process of ceramic art—from designing, sculpting, throwing, and carving clay to glazing and firing your pieces for a polished, professional finish. Create everything from functional items like mugs, bowls, and vases to bold sculptures, wearable art, and one-of-a-kind masterpieces. Come ready to get your hands dirty and bring your most imaginative ideas to life!

Note:

-This course is designed for ages 14 and up. 

-All material and firing fees are included in tuition.

-Full and partial scholarships are available upon inquiry. Please email education@lexart.org. 

-For the duration of the class, students are welcome to continue working on their pieces independently during supervised open studio hours.

About the instructor: 

Katie Lawee brings over a decade of experience in ceramics, with a focus on wheel-thrown pottery. Her passion for working with clay began in elementary school right here in Lexington, where she took her first pottery class. Her love of hands-on creativity led her to study studio art at Brandeis University and has continued to shape her artistic journey ever since. Katie has taught ceramics to students ranging from preschoolers to college-age artists, sharing her enthusiasm for both technical skill and creative exploration. She is excited to help LexArt students discover their own artistic voices through clay.
