About the instructor:
I started painting when a friend suggested we paint floorcloths together in 1990. I later discovered that I love watercolor. The paint mixing on the paper creates beautiful colors and patterns with only a little help from the artist. It is exciting and satisfying to help the paint. The process is more important than the product. I try to bring personality and color to my subjects—to make them more "real" than real. The values (light and dark shapes) define objects. For me colors are like chocolate. My colors emphasize the spirit of the subject—taste, smell, personality. Paintings point out things you might not see on your own but which are recognizably true. One of my students said: “I like to paint because it helps me see differently.” That’s true for me.
