The latest NARM Quarterly is now available where you can meet each of our newest members and find virtual programming that you may want to share with your members. DON'T LOSE TOUCH! Staff changes are inevitable, but they shouldn't mean that you lose your NARM Association membership. More and more institutions have fallen off the list due to loss of contact and, while we make effort to reconnect with emails and phone calls, we do have to remove members who do not keep their membership current. Make a plan now to pass along any contact information changes to info@narmassociation.org in case of staff changes, if you do not have one in place already, and your organization will not be in danger of losing your NARM Association membership. - LexArt in Artscope
Crafting Change NEW LEXART PROGRAMS EXPAND ORGANIZATIONAL REACH By Cassandra Goldwater (Co-Chair of LexArt Board of Directors and Metalworking/Weaving Studio Member) Since 2017, Matthew Siegal, the first full-time executive director of LexArt, has been on a quest to revive and rejuvenate the role of arts and craft into community life in Lexington. After a 33-year career in museums, culminating in 19 years with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Siegal is using his experience to evolve LexArt from a local art/craft nonprofit with an 80-year history of relying on volunteers to survive, to a thriving resource for arts regionally. “Trying to make the case for the primacy of the arts, and in particular, the primacy of the act of making, and the vast possibilities of making art/craft in a shared environment is a tremendous challenge,” Siegal said. “Art holds such great promise for self-discovery, as therapy, as solace, to communicate and to glean insights, I just want to scream it in the streets." - i3C | REIMAGINING OUR WORLD
Mar 23 - Apr 21, 2024 Opening Reception: Sun, Mar 24, 2024; 2- 5 pm Workshop: Sat, April 6th, 2024; 1-3pm https://www.lexart.org/event-details/waste-material-cordage-basic-techniques-and-uses Workshop: Sat, April 13th, 2024, 10-4pm https://www.lexart.org/event-details/trash-to-treasure Curatorial Statement: The environmental crisis is multifactorial: consumerism, pollution, extreme weather, loss of biodiversity, and other catastrophes - too complex, too intertwined, but above all, too urgent. A collective problem that requires collective solutions. As individuals, we wonder, “How can I contribute to the solution?” The featured eco-minded artists, members of i3C (inspiring Change for the Climate Crisis) Artists Group and Guests, respond by working with rejected materials, such as beach debris, plastic waste, or repurposed textiles. They dare to reinvent the life of waste, transforming these society rejections into reminders of what we need to save. Join our conversation: change is not only possible but also a necessary and powerful element for critical environmental transformation.
