Description: All skill levels welcome! Learn to woodwork without machinery or a workbench; all you need is some skill and creativity. This class introduces all necessary hand tools, including squares, saws, chisels, and planes. Without access to a typical workbench, working only on chairs or dining benches, you will learn how to make complete pieces of furniture without sacrificing efficiency or ergonomics. All the tools we need fit in a small toolbox and thus is a system that is not only space and material efficient, but also portable and economical.

Students will choose between making a simple stool, or a Roman workbench (essentially an entryway bench).

About the instructor: Xueguang Lyu grew up in China and is a student of Master Lu Ban. Taking a great interest in traditional woodworking, he graduated the Mortise and Tenon Apprenticeship (of Sedgwick, ME) with Journeyman's Award. Living in Winchester with his wife and family, he now produces fine woodworking hand tools through his company Zen-Wu Toolworks.
