An inset door with carefully set butt hinges looks elegant and functions for years without adjustment. In this class you will learn to set fixed-pin butt hinges so your cabinet doors look great and swing smoothly. Setting a nice hinge in a carefully made cabinet is pleasant and satisfying work.
Students will purchase their own materials for this class. A materials list for this class is provided: here.
About the instructor: Dan Paret has been working with wood for about 40 years, professionally as a home renovation contractor, and vocationally as a maker of cabinets and boxes, and finally as a professional woodworker making both custom and speculative cabinets and boxes. Since 2002, he has been doing most of his woodworking with hand tools.
Working in a small basement shop in North Cambridge, Dan makes functional and decorative wood objects and woodblock prints. When he is not in his own shop, he is likely to be out walking or teaching hand tool woodworking at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education, which he has been doing since September 2000. From time to time he also has the pleasure of teaching short classes at the Eliot School in Jamaica Plain.
