Description:Â
This 9-week beginning machine woodworking class will teach the proper use and daily care of primary woodworking machines, including Jointer, Planer, Table Saw, Bandsaw and Chop Saw, as well as a small selection of hand tools. Students will learn shop safety procedures, and how to select and prepare lumber for safe and accurate fine woodworking. This is a skill building class intended to prepare a novice woodworker for studio use.Â
About the instructor:Â
Palo Coleman grew up in Northern California where he spent a lot of time in the woods, taught himself building skills, and developed an interest in small-scale living. Now living with his wife and family in Cambridge, he continues to experiment in myriad woodworking techniques and is a tiny-house builder. Past projects include a living playground in Waitsfield, Vermont’s elementary school; making a vertical garden system; constructing medieval games for the Fuller Craft Museum; and developing a portable studio with Japanese-wood siding. He has an obsession with how things work and are put together, and he likes to bring that obsession into classroom and woodworking shop.
