Description:

This easy to sew canvas basket is perfect for storing small items like keys, jewelry, office supplies, or sewing notions. Its compact size makes it ideal for tight spaces on your desk or bedside table. The basket features a sturdy construction that ensures it can hold its shape even when filled with heavier items. Once you know how to sew this you can make it in a variety of sizes.

We’ll start with a quick review of machine sewing basics and move on to:

-Measuring, marking, cutting fabric, and pinning for machine sewing

-Seam sewing, back stitching, seam finishing and/or French seams

-Simple top stitched edge finish

An instructor-provided kit will contain 100 percent cotton canvas for your basket and lining. All the

machine sewing supplies will be provided. 

Note: A materials $10 fee should be paid directly to the instructor at the start of the first class. 

About the instructor:

Cheryl Moreau teaches sewing and textile arts at HATCH, Watertown’s Maker’s Space, sponsored by the Watertown Free Library; see the website http://www.watertownlib.org/hatch.  In January 2022 she will also teach at LexArt Sewing Studio, a new sewing and textile education program for this organization, see the website https://www.lexart.org/. Special interests include textile history, knitting, fabric printing, and designing with everyday objects and scrap materials.
