- Sheep to Shawl at LexFarm
"Sheep to Shawl" is coming to LexFarm this spring! Wildly popular Tufts class coming to Silk Fields Farm (behind LexFarm), taught by Kim Goldinger, local farmer and fiber explorer. Limited spaces available for our spring session on Monday nights, 5-8pm for 6 consecutive weeks, April 3-May 8, plus a special session to participate in the annual alpaca shearing April 23. The classes will start at the farm (weather permitting) and then head over to a private residence on Farm Road for the bulk of class time. We will cover all phases of the fiber process from animal care and shearing to processing and dyeing wool (using a selection of natural dyes) to spinning and knitting to create a final, totally unique product. The class fee will cover: fiber, mordant, dyes, carding and spinning tools. This class is for adults (18+) with a maximum of 10 participants. $250 LexFarm Members, $275 Non-Members. LexArt has been invited to mount an exhibition at Brookhaven at Lexington, a local continuing care retirement community, and home to some of our members! Brookhaven features a lengthy and wide, high-traffic corridor with ample natural light, that it uses to mount exhibits. We are delighted to be able to both share our work with Brookhaven residents and introduce them to your work and to LexArt. The exhibit will be seen by all the nearly 500 Brookhaven residents and their guests. All LexArt members are invited to submit work for consideration. The spring-themed Renewal will run for two months. Brookhaven residents will be asked to vote for their favorite works and prize money will be awarded to the winners. Works may be offered for sale. Ink Reimagined is a groundbreaking solo exhibition of contemporary Korean ink painter Park Dae Sung’s works. Our friends from the Korean Cultural Society of Boston organized a visit to this breathtaking show at the Hood Museum. Lovers, practitioners, and students of brush painting will see the world with new eyes after experiencing Park's unique vision. One of the most inspiring exhibits I've seen in years.
- Hear Me Now: The Black Potters of Old Edgefield, South Carolina @MFA, Boston
March 4–July 9, 2023 Focusing on the work of Black potters in the 19th-century American South, this landmark exhibition presents approximately 60 ceramic objects from Old Edgefield District, South Carolina, a center of stoneware production in the decades before the Civil War, together with contemporary responses.
- LexArt Weaving & Fiber Arts Guild donates fiber to the Refugee Artisans of Worcester (RAW)
Eight bags of colorful fiber were transported to Worcester and delivered to Joan Kariko (one of the co-founders of RAW) earlier this week. Being able to supply the artisans of this bootstrap non-profit organization with the raw materials needed to complete their traditional handcrafts is one of great satisfaction and is frankly a win-win for both organizations. - Days for Girls holds its first Sew-A-Thon @ Lexart
The Boston Metro chapter of Days for Girls, held a Sew-A-Thon in our Plummer Studio on Saturday 2/18/23. This was their first event held at LexArt. Society member Carol Baran has been sewing for this organization for a number of years now. Link to Days for Girls International
